Jun Hyun-moo Reflects on Drunken Livestream Controversy Involving Park Na-rae: “Sorry and Thank You”

Broadcaster Jun Hyun-moo has publicly apologized after sparking controversy by mentioning comedian Park Na-rae during a drunken Instagram Live session with singer BoA. On April 9, he released an official statement expressing both remorse and gratitude, “I apologize for the delay in addressing my official apology regarding the Instagram Live broadcast last Saturday,” Jun began.

“I immediately conveyed my apologies to Park Na-rae after the broadcast for bringing her up without reason, and I’m both sorry and grateful that she graciously understood, despite how uncomfortable the situation must have been.”
He admitted it was “clearly wrong to mention someone on-air when they weren’t present,” and acknowledged his poor judgment in livestreaming while intoxicated. “I sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable. I will be even more thoughtful and considerate toward those I am close with.”
How the Controversy Started
The backlash began on April 5, when Jun Hyun-moo and BoA went live on social media while visibly intoxicated. During the stream, a viewer asked whether Jun was dating Park Na-rae. BoA responded, “That’s not possible,” to which Jun jokingly asked, “Is Park Na-rae the one who’s too good [for me]?” BoA replied, “You’re the one who’s too good,” a comment that many found disrespectful and inappropriate, especially given Park’s absence.

Despite receiving a call from his manager mid-broadcast, Jun continued the livestream. He later said, “The company is in chaos right now. Our director (referring to BoA) talked while drunk,” before abruptly ending the session.
BoA previously addressed the incident on April 7, issuing an apology via her fan community.
While Jun and BoA’s apologies appear sincere, criticism persists, especially toward Jun Hyun-moo for not upholding the professionalism expected of a seasoned broadcaster. Netizens have emphasized that even in casual or familiar settings, public figures must exercise caution and respect.
A Quiet Response and a Cautionary Reminder
Park Na-rae has remained silent throughout the controversy, choosing not to respond publicly. Her quiet handling of the situation has been praised as composed and mature.

Jun’s final reflection in his statement may serve as a broader reminder, “The closer the relationship, the more careful and respectful one should be.”
The incident underscores the importance of discretion and respect, even among close colleagues. While both Jun Hyun-moo and BoA have taken steps to address their missteps, public trust remains fragile. Moving forward, the industry, and its audiences, will be watching closely to see how both figures uphold the values they’ve now promised to reflect.
